What Drives Me as an Avian By Brown Eredia

Life is a journey marked by choices, shaped by challenges, and strengthened by convictions. For many, it’s a pursuit of survival, success, or significance. But for those of us who proudly bear the name Avian, life becomes something more. It becomes a mission a calling to live with purpose, serve with integrity, and uphold the sacred bond of brotherhood that defines our existence.

In this context, the word drive transcends mere ambition. It is not just a desire to achieve. It is the inner force that propels us forward, even when no one is watching. It is the silent fire that burns through exhaustion, discouragement, and adversity. It is the compass that aligns our actions with our values and reminds us of who we are.

So, what drives me?

I am driven by purpose: a deep, personal need to live beyond myself. I am inspired to give my time, my strength, and my voice to causes that uplift others. In a world that constantly pulls people inward, I am drawn outward, toward service, impact, and legacy.

I am driven by memory: the powerful reminder of our roots. I remember where we came from as a collective, the struggles and sacrifices that birthed the Aviary Club of Nigeria. I remember the vision of our founding fathers, their bold commitment to unity, dignity, and transformation in a time when it seemed the world around them was unraveling. That memory fuels my commitment today.

I am driven by responsibility: To be called an Avian is not just to belong to a club; it is to carry a torch. A vision. A duty. It is to stand for honor, truth, and growth. Every task I take on is not just a job, it’s a reflection of something greater. A trust placed on my shoulders by a community that believes in more than words, a community built on values.

Above all, I am driven by brotherhood. In a world where loyalty is scarce and relationships are transactional,  Ours is a bond built on shared struggle, mutual respect, and unconditional support. To see another Avian thrive, to witness his smile, his resilience, his victory brings me joy. We don’t just carry a name. We carry each other.

The opportunity to serve has also been a defining drive in my journey. From my early days, to my present role, I have embraced every responsibility with reverence. For me, leadership is not about titles, it’s about trust. Every office held, every duty performed, is a chance to give back. To honor those who came before and empower those yet to come.

I am also driven by a desire to preserve our legacy. History is filled with institutions that lost their way because they forgot why they began. I want our actions to speak of honor, our culture to reflect our values, and our presence in society to be a force for good. We must never become what we once stood against.

Most of all, I am driven by the power to transform lives. Whether it’s mentoring a younger Avian, standing by a brother in distress, or embodying our ideals in the wider society, I want my presence to make a difference. If even one life is made better because I showed up, then I consider that success.

Every human being needs something worth waking up for. Something to believe in. Something to give their best to. In the Aviary Club of Nigeria, I found that “something.” I found a place where passion meets purpose, and where identity is more than a label, it is a responsibility.

To every Avian reading this, I leave you with one question:

What drives you?
