In any great organization, leadership is not just about the title you carry, it’s about the work you do, the responsibility you embrace, and the impact you create. Sadly, in too many cases, some members accept leadership positions for the prestige, recognition, or ceremonial appearances without truly fulfilling the duties attached to the role.
The Aviary Club of Nigeria thrives on commitment, not empty titles. So let’s ask ourselves honestly: Am I doing my job, or did I just grab the role for ceremony’s sake?
Below is a reminder of what each role demands, not just in name, but in action.
President (Grande Ibaka)
The President is the highest-ranking officer, the face and voice of the Aviary Club. This role requires:
Leadership: Guiding the organization with vision, strategy, and integrity.
Decision-Making: Taking responsibility for big calls that shape the club’s future.
Representation: Standing as the chief ambassador at major events and public functions.
If you hold this title but avoid tough decisions or delegate everything, you’re wearing the crown without carrying the weight.
Vice President (Grande Ostrich)
The Vice President is not a silent backup. Instead, they:
Support the President in executing strategies.
Take charge of specific departments or initiatives.
Step up confidently in the President’s absence.
If you’re waiting for the President to “need you” instead of actively contributing, you’re not fulfilling your role.
Program Director (Grande Flamingo)
Programs and events are the lifeblood of the club’s mission. This role means:
Designing and managing programs that align with the club’s goals.
Coordinating with teams to ensure smooth execution.
Innovating to keep activities fresh and relevant.
If events happen without your clear input or planning, you’ve left the organization empty.
Secretary General (Grande Nightingale)
The Secretary General keeps the organizational machinery running. Duties include:
Maintaining accurate records.
Handling correspondence.
Ensuring meetings are well-documented and organized.
If the minutes are missing or the paperwork is scattered, it’s time to re-evaluate.
Public Relations Officer (Grande Eagle)
This role shapes how the world sees the Aviary Club:
Managing communication with the public and media.
Promoting the club’s image and activities.
Building and maintaining relationships with stakeholders.
If the public doesn’t know what the club is doing, the eagle isn’t flying.
Treasurer (Grande Woodpecker)
Finances are the club’s backbone, and the Treasurer:
Manages all funds and budgets.
Keeps transparent financial records.
Provides regular financial reports.
If no one knows the club’s financial standing, the woodpecker isn’t keeping the tree strong.
Security Director (Grande Dove)
Safety and order are non-negotiable. This role involves:
Protecting members and venues.
Overseeing event security.
Preparing for emergencies.
If members feel unsafe or events are chaotic, the dove isn’t guarding the flock.
Entertainment Director (Grande Parrot)
The Parrot brings life and color to the club’s activities:
Coordinating engaging entertainment.
Ensuring members and guests enjoy a vibrant experience.
Supporting the social side of the organization’s mission.
If events feel dull and lifeless, the parrot isn’t singing.
Every title in the Aviary Club of Nigeria carries responsibility. The badge, sash, or ceremonial acknowledgment is the easy part, the real honor is in serving with dedication, integrity, and visible results.
So leaders, ask yourself again:
Am I truly doing my job… or am I just holding the role for ceremony’s sake?
The future of the Aviary Club depends on leaders who act, not just those who pose.
