In a decisive effort to address the rising drug abuse crisis among Nigerian youth, the Lagoon Palms Aviary Club of Nigeria has launched an ambitious project for drug addicts. The initiative was unveiled during the club’s end-of-year party held on Sunday, December 22, 2024, at the prestigious Civic Centre in Victoria Island, Lagos.
The event was a vibrant celebration that combined entertainment, enlightenment, and philanthropy. Hosted by the ever-charismatic MC, Gbenga Adeyinka, the gathering was attended by club members, community stakeholders, and notable guests. Attendees were treated to an engaging evening featuring educational sessions on the dangers of drug abuse and excessive alcohol consumption, shedding light on their devastating impact on Nigerian youth.
In his keynote address, the President of the Lagoon Palms Aviary Club, Mr. Adegoke Oshadipe, underscored the club’s dedication to community service and social justice. He called on the government to take urgent steps to address the root causes of youth drug addiction.
“The government can start by creating jobs for the youth and providing incentives,” Oshadipe said. “On our part, we have taken it upon ourselves to go to the streets and talk to our brothers who are engaging in using substances that are not good for them. We have partnered with different medical personnel and NGOs to rehabilitate these individuals.”
Reflecting on the club’s achievements over the past year, Oshadipe expressed heartfelt gratitude to members and the executive council for their unwavering support. “Looking back at the past 12 months, it has been a truly rewarding year for us as a society. I would like to thank the executive council and members of the club for their support and trust in my leadership,” he remarked.
Adding his voice to the cause, Benjamin Hundeyin, spokesperson for the Lagos State Police Command, commended the initiative. He noted that the Lagos State Police Command was delighted to support the project, highlighting that statistical data revealed a significant link between substance abuse and criminal activities.
The evening’s program featured exciting activities, including gift-giving and an electrifying after-party, where attendees danced and celebrated the club’s impactful work and future aspirations.
