HANG IN THERE

I was reading a book sometimes last month.

The book is centered on resilience and mental toughness in the face of adversity and challenges.

A chapter caught my eyes and curiosity.

Though a few paragraphs,it thought me a lot about hanging in there.

Now,here's the story, you might have heard it or read about it too.

A man had an old donkey that has been faithful to him over the years.

Now a donkey is a very essential part of life in the middle east.

This man's donkey in its unconsciousness fell into the well within the house of this man.

The man was sad, why?

Simply because, he's loosing his donkey of many years to his own mistake of not doing what is needed to secure the donkey in that difficult moment.

If the well was covered at least or housed in such a way that no animal had access, such unfortunate incident wouldn't have occured.

As sad as everything seems, the man resigned to fate and called people to help bury his almost dead donkey trapped in the well.

Imagine the donkey dies in the well, the stench will pollute the man's household and make his home unfit for living.

Hence his decision to cover the well in earth sand at least to bury the donkey and also abandon the well.

Now,something spectacular happened as the first earth sand hit the donkey's body.

To the villagers pouring sand into the well, their aim was to bury a donkey, to the trapped donkey,it saw hope.

With every shovel throw of sand into the well, the donkey was getting his footing in the well.

The donkey shrugged off the sands and kept climbing the heap of sand thrown into the well.

Eventually, what was meant to bury it inadvertently became its saving grace and a step to getting back its life.

Because, with every sand thrown into the well, the donkey saw hope and not danger.

If an animal can exhibit such instinct.

Why not you? A human.

That survival instinct is always there in any dire situation you might feel is uncontrollable.

But you have to deploy that hopeful instinct in you that keeps you going and see every situation as an opportunity to get some experience in the journey of life.

We learn everyday, there's no one that has experience all the sides these life has to give.

Your story is different to the other person while your journey is not the same as that of your close friend.

Everyone with his/her own experience, your experience shouldn't define you.

So don't fall into the trap called comparison.

You are better and better placed than your experience.

It is your expectations that truly matters.

You can't just give up now, keep grinding, keep digging, keep shrugging those negativities off just like that donkey left for dead but overcame because of mindset.

The owner and the villagers saw something to be buried but the donkey saw hope and an avenue to escape.

As 2024 winds down, you may feel unfulfilled, uncomfortable and resent the whole year as wasted but there's always a light at the end of every tunnel

So hang in there, keep believing and hope for the best.
