REST
Do you take the time to do something about your ever-buzzing activity-filled living?
You get out of bed to prepare for work, get the kids ready for school, and dash out almost half dressed because you have a bus to catch or do some "school runs" before heading out to work.
So in all of these never-ending activities, when and how do you unwind or rest?
You would have thought rest is just about sitting and taking a break from all pulse-racing activities.
But sometimes, while seated you are thinking about the next step, action, or activity to engage in.
In life, you don't know how far the ripple effect of your actions or decisions can go.
Because, every action and decision you will ever take, takes its toll on your body.
Either in non-work-related activities such as phone worship or life administration tasks such as shopping, eating, etc, and unpaid labor, i.e house chores, care work, etc.
You are constantly thinking about what's next as soon as you are out of bed in the morning.
So, when do you give the body, the needed rest?
In my research, there are peculiarities as regards some life activities that are common to all and differ from country to country.
Let's take sleep as an example, the Dutch have been discovered to sleep more than the rest of the world while Singaporeans sleep the least.
Why does this happen?Have you ever wondered why?
I was also surprised just like you because we all have the same eight to nine hours of sleep at night globally.
Alright let's also move to dining activities,my research also revealed Italians, French, Greek, and Spanish spend more time eating than the rest of Europe.
While the Americans spend the least time dining.
Why did I choose eating and sleeping as a yardstick?
It is because when we engage in these two activities our minds and body are truly at rest.
All other activities require our full attention or concentration.
So how can you truly get the rest you desire without necessarily switching off from all activities?
Is it possible? Yes, it is!!
According to researchers, there are seven types of rest namely;
1) Social Rest.
2)Creative Rest
3)Physical Rest
4)Mental Rest
5)Emotional Rest
6)Sensory Rest
7)Spiritual Rest
All these listed above are kinds of rest, you will do well to read up on each and discover the ones your body truly needs.
I could have enumerated the contents of each rest schedule but it's better to read up on them yourself because reading itself is a kind of rest.
In conclusion, your health is commensurate to the number of restful activities you engage your body with.
It will keep your body in shape and may likely help elongate your life.
Engage in rest so you won't Rest in Peace.
Do Have a Restful July.
